Old Vitės Cemetery
The Old Vitės Cemetery (Senosios Vitės Kapinės in Lithuanian), sometimes referred to as Vittener Cemetry, is located on the northern outskirts of Klaipeda.
Apart from the two British War Graves and memorial to several Russian war dead alongside, there is little remaining to suggest this was ever a cemetery.
Klaipėda Central Stadium and it's car park are directly to the north and are thought to occupy a good proportion of the original cemetery that existed prior to 1925.
During The Great War and under German control, it appears that the cemetery was used mainly for German occupants. Following the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 and the subsequent re-occupation of Lithuania, it appears that the cemetery and most of it's monuments were levelled, it's occupants removed and repurposed for Russian war dead.
